"Racing for Children" Charity Drive Sponsored by
Scottsdale Company
August 24 , 2005 by Kathleen
Gorden
Local real estate development company Winfield Lee
Investments & Development of Scottsdale recently
joined with race car driver Pete Olson to sponsor his
'Racing for Children' efforts for the Christian
Children's Fund ("CCF"), in a Formula 2000 race on July
16th at the Lime Rock Raceway in Connecticut.
For
the past several years Olson has promoted his Racing for
Children program to the benefit of the Christian
Children’s Fund. The purpose of the program is to use
the unique venue and excitement of auto racing to
promote the organization and find more sponsors for
children, by advertising the CCF logo on the racecar and
using race events to generate media interest in CCF.
Through the program, CCF has received more than
$20 thousand in free media publicity distributed to more
than 320,000 readers in various publications. Olson
currently sponsors two children with CCF, a girl Araya
from Thailand and a boy Shivnarine from the Dominican
Republic. “If it gets one more person to sponsor a child
and change a life, it will be worth it” said
Olson.
"I'd really like to thank Winfield Lee
Investments for making this race and my chase for the
Lime Rock lap record possible. Winfield Lee’s support
for my 'racing for children' efforts is helping me to
continue to generate valuable publicity for CCF through
professional auto racing. I definitely expect a win next
time around," said a confident Olson.
Olson
excelled in the Formula 2000 race despite being injured
in a massive practice crash just 48 hours before.
Starting the race in 8th as a result of the accident and
falling to 9th during a chaotic race start, Olson picked
up five positions to finish 4th.
Olson is the
only American driver currently competing in the
prestigious 175mph China Formula Renault race series,
which is watched by more than 100 million live
television viewers in mainland China. He has used auto
racing to promote the Racing for Children program for
the past several years in his auto racing endeavors in
the United States and Asia.
