Shanghai International F1 Circuit, Shanghai China –

Race driver Pete Olson has made quite a debut in the first day of practice held at the newly-opened Shanghai International Circuit [SIC].

Today, the American racer demonstrated great natural talent behind the wheel of his 274kph/170mph Formula Renault race car by placing 4th in the first practice session at the challenging new race circuit.  Olson was less than a second behind last year’s Formula Campus Champion in only his 8th day in Formula Renault [results – PDF File].

“This is a fantastic circuit to drive, a real challenge” said Olson from his hotel in Shanghai, China.  “It is also the most incredible race course I’ve ever seen, not just technically but from a spectator’s point of view as well.  It has amazing facilities for both the drivers and the fans.  I think auto racing has a great future here in Shanghai” said Olson.

We wish him the best of luck in tomorrow’s qualifying session as well as Sunday’s races, which will be the first ever held at the world’s newest Formula One race circuit.
