the indoor tracks at Xin Dien or Shr Lin at 60kph. This is the real deal:
160kph/100mph professional race karting: the thrill of a lifetime, the
stuff of F1 dreams, just 25 minutes from downtown Taipei. Olson
Motorsports will provide transportation,
karts, and professional instruction. It is the ultimate in
convenience and serious thrills in the fastest racing in Taiwan,
for minimal cost.
F1 World Champions
such as Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna paved the way to their
professional racing careers and honed their skills through professional race
karts. Schumacher still uses them in the off-season, even after seven Formula
One World Championships, to keep up his skills. Dare to
experience adrenaline-filled racing in its purest form: no shifting, no aerodynamic aids,
just plain fast driving. World Champions such as “Schumi” often
cite karts as the most cost effective and simple method of learning
the art of competitive driving, car control, fine-tuning reaction times,
and no-holds barred racing in a pure wheel-to-wheel environment.
Racer “Pete” Olson
moved to Taiwan in 2004 to compete in the Formula Renault Championship in
China, after obtaining his race experience and a many trophies in the
United States in 500cc motorcycle racing, sprint and shifter karting,
Formula 2000 and Formula Renault [see

racing website]. He
currently holds the coveted FIA Class B International Racing License [Just
two steps below a Formula One “Superlicense”]. He will race next
year in the Rotax Max Taiwan Country Championship, for a shot at the world
run-offs, as well as continuing his Formula Renault career
at the Shanghai and Zhuhai race circuits.
However, the
Velocity Kart Racing School story started when Olson began renting
“arrive and drive” karts
last year at the Tao Yuen track, just 25 minutes
West of downtown Taipei [map]. The former 100cc sprint karting
Champion found there were no native English instructors or track personnel
to teach the expat community the thrill of 160kph karting at Northern
Taiwan’s only professional kart racing circuit. Although he found some
expat kart racers at the track, they were all drivers with past experience
in their home countries who had no need of racing instruction and had gone
through a fair amount of trouble, as Olson did, to learn where and how
they could drive professional karts in Taiwan.
As a result, Olson
brought many interested expat friends to the track and used his extensive
racing experience to teach them how to push a kart to the limit. The
160kph Rotax is the most powerful kart available in Taiwan, the very same
one that you will be able to drive after just a few sessions in the
smaller-engined rental karts.
“I know that there
are a lot of people here in Taiwan who would love the thrill of these fast
karts” says Olson. “Driving one of these karts at wide-open throttle
at 160kph is actually the same sensation of speed that you get at
280kph/174 mph in a Formula Renault car, because in a kart you are
seated just an inch off the ground. It is an incredible rush, and I have
yet to see someone I’ve taught not come away with a huge smile on their
face and totally loving the experience."
The
classes are given on weekends, and custom tailored to your busy schedule.
