Taipei, Taiwan– There is no doubt that auto racing is an individualistic sport of egotism and no-nonsense exactitude.

However, race driver Pete Olson has shown that despite his very single-minded determination to win and sometimes ruthless behavior on the track, he still has room in his heart for compassion.

For several years, Olson has sponsored two children through CCF, a little girl named “Araya” who lives in Northern Thailand, and “Shivnarine”, a young boy from the Dominican Republic.

“They both mean a lot to me in different ways” said Olson.  “Araya reminds me of the kindergarten students I taught English to one year in Taiwan, and Shivnarine is an aspiring professional cricket player.  He reminds me of my own childhood racing dreams.  I also receive cards and letters from both of them on a regular basis and it is really special to me to see my sponsorship at work.”

Before beginning competition in Formula 2000 back in the States, Olson contacted the Christian Children’s Fund and asked permission to advertise the organization’s website on the side of his race car in the hopes of finding more sponsors for children [CCF assists children around the world, including the United States, with such basics as food, clothing, shelter and health care, regardless of race, gender, or religion].

This year, Olson has been advertising CCF on the side of his Formula Renault race car in the China Formula Renault Championship, which takes place in Zhuhai and Shanghai China from March through October each year [article].

With its growing popularity in Mainland China, especially due to the recent opening of the $300 million Shanghai International Circuit [Olson took part in the opening day races at the circuit in June and was rewarded with two trophies for his efforts article], auto racing has found a new home in China’s booming economy.

With up to 40,000 fans in attendance at each race, as well as millions of television viewers on CCTV5, China’s sports channel, Olson believes that the Formula Renault series is “an incredible opportunity to promote the Christian Children’s Fund, and hopefully get more people interested in sponsoring children, as I did.”
